The Writing Center has officially been open for two weeks! Many faculty, staff, and students attended the open house for the Center for Writing Excellence to speak with consultants and see the new space in Belk Library. President Lambert, Dr. Jackson, and Dr. House were among the many in attendance. With new improvements along with the dedication and help of the Writing Center consultants, the Writing Center had 245 sessions in the first two weeks. This was a record compared to the 130 session held in the first two weeks of Fall 2012.
The new location in Belk Library offers several new tables and chairs for collaboration throughout the writing process. Along with the new location, the Writing Center has added the ability to schedule appointments online with consultants ahead of time. Sessions can last anywhere from 15-45 minutes, and available times can be found at elon.mywconline.com. Please note that you must register first to make an appointment. Also, the Writing Center still offers appointments on a walk-in basis. There is a satellite location in the Multicultural Center, and another one will be opening in the Business School in the next few weeks.
The Writing Center is available to all students, faculty, staff, and community members. Consultants are all undergraduates who have been trained across the disciplines to help clients with the writing process from brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, to documenting sources. The Writing Center is open Monday through Thursday 10am-10pm, Friday 10am-4pm, and Sunday 2pm-10pm (note earlier open time on Sunday!).
