Kelsey O’Connell

My name is Kelsey O’Connell and I’m a member of the Class of 2014 at Elon University. I’m an English major with a concentration in Professional Writing and Rhetoric and minors in Creative Writing and Multimedia Authoring. I’m a fan of The Godfather, Franz Kafka, and kittens.

Mia Brady

Hello! My name is Mia Brady, and I am a senior at Elon University in North Carolina. For as long as I can remember, I have had a love for literature, reading, and writing. Over the past few years, I have matured and prospered as a college student and this love has grown into passion. Here at Elon, I am pursuing a major in English with a concentration in Professional Writing and Rhetoric, as well as a minor in Communications. This past summer, I completed an editorial internship with John Wiley and Sons, and in the summer of 2011, an internship with Skyhorse Publishing. Through these experiences, I gained irreplaceable knowledge about the book publishing industry, and established a firm interest in this field. I plan on implementing writing in my career for years to come; working on this Highway 64 project has been great practice for my future. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent on this unique project. I have had the opportunity to travel throughout the great state of North Carolina, visit incredible restaurants and places, and establish a better understanding of writing as inquiry as a whole. A Northern girl born and raised in New Jersey, I never thought I’d know so much about Carolina barbecue, but I am definitely happy that I do.

Christine Meyer

Christine Meyer

Welcome friends, travelers, fellow writers and readers, and stumblers.  My name is Christine Meyer and I am a junior at Elon University in North Carolina.  Here at Elon, I am majoring in Professional Writing and Rhetoric with a minor in Leadership studies.

Professional Writing and Rhetoric has been part of my college career since freshman year when I decided to take Style and Editing, a class that truly defined my education at Elon and helped me make the switch to English studies.  Since then, I have developed my writing and communication skills in a number of PWR classes.  However, Writing as Inquiry has shifted my ways of thinking, learning, and travelling.  By observationally learning and delving deep into many forms of research, I am more aware of my surrounding environments and the human relations, motives, communication processes, and-of course- eating habits that form them.

Olivia James

Olivia James is a junior Strategic Communications major at Elon University from Raleigh, NC.  She contributed to the western half of the Highway 64, and enjoyed traveling to places she had never been in North Carolina, as well as getting to know her classmates.

Will Stiefel

Will Stiefel is a Senior Professional Writing and Rhetoric major with a minor in Italian Studies. He enjoys travelling and eating foods he has never tried before.  Will is also very interested in reading and writing, especially when it also applies to travelling or food.

Chelsea Vollrath

Chelsea Vollrath is a senior at Elon, majoring in English with a concentration in Professional Writing and Rhetoric and minoring in Asian Studies. Chelsea plans to attend law school after graduation. She’s not sure where she’ll be, yet, but hopes she’ll be attending a J.D. program somewhere in the south.  Chelsea has an interest in photography, so the combination of that interest and her passion for writing made traveling on Highway 64 and researching the towns nestled along it was very rewarding and enjoyable experience that she will always remember. Chelsea’s writing is featured under the following towns: Mocksville, Taylorsville, Lenoir, and Lake Lure.
