Musings

I knew coming into this class that I was going to learn a lot, but I had no idea just how much we would cover and design in just a few months.  At the beginning of the semester we were told that we were our biggest project.  Now that I can look back on the entire semester, I completely agree.  I learned so much about visual aesthetics, Adobe products, and design concepts, but more than anything, I learned that I’m not a designer.   I love the process of coming up with an idea, throwing some thoughts on paper, and seeing what turns out, but I don’t enjoy the process of taking that illustration, that idea, and re-creating it in Illustrator or After Effects.  While some people may love the process of digital design, creation, and tweaking, I find that it takes a lot of the enjoyment out of the project.

Projects like our Alien Typography assignment not only helped me learn the various tools you can use to create something new, but also showed me how creative and original you can be.  All of our projects really showcased the resources you can use to create beautiful interactive work.  I especially appreciated learning the process behind creating interactive media.  I was only slightly familiar with storyboards prior to this class and wire framing was a completely new concept. Those are such important pieces in the design process and I’m very fortunate to leave the class with experience in them.
