Clear History

I watched “Forget the Film, Watch the Titles.” My attention was definitely grabbed but I was confused as to what the premise of the movie would be. My mind drifted to computers, technology, and the Geek Squad. Even though it seemed like I wouldn’t understand or like the movie’s focus I liked the introduction title sequence because it kept my interest: it was clever, excellently executed, and kept moving forward, leading me on waiting for what was to come next. I liked that every name was the same size and font, giving uniformity to the sequence along with the individuals who put the piece together.

I didn’t understand the purpose of the wireframe computer screen titles until I watched “Erasing the Past.” After, it clicked that the title actions were symbolic of the main character’s motives to cleanse himself of his past mistakes. The first paragraph states that this title sequence “perfectly evoke(s) the meaning of the title and the plot of the movie,” however, I disagree and would argue that it leaves a little ambiguity for the viewer.

I definitely don’t think this sequence would have had the same impact if the style wasn’t changed to a wireframe model using darker colors – it gives it a hidden, deeper meaning into the focus of the movie. My two suggestions to make this sequence more powerful would be to revise the music choice and rethink the guy’s face in the opening seconds. These two elements seem very disjointed from the computerized movement going on throughout the screen.
