I’m so glad that I took the time to watch a few of the “Story of Stuff” videos this weekend. I think I am pretty aware of many of the issues the videos discussed, but it was great to see the ideas presented in a cute and creative way. Plus, living a “clean” life and buying safe products can be difficult. It’s good to remind yourself of why you’re doing it every once in awhile.
I have been trying to live a mostly toxic free life for the past few years. Once I moved out on my own and was able to make my own buying decisions I started researching the products I used and the food that I ate. I was shocked to see how many chemicals and toxins were in the things that I put in and on my body every single day. It was then that I started changing my lifestyle: eating less meat; buying natural products; not wearing or buying leather; researching companies, etc.
This lifestyle isn’t the easiest, but I’m a much happier and healthier person because of it. It makes me feel more in control of my life, which makes me feel better. And even though, as the videos mentioned, my weekly trips to the store don’t matter that much, I feel like I’m making a difference – even if it is small.
I’m glad that the “Story of Stuff” project exists and that is done in such an entertaining way. I hope that that makes more people watch the videos and really think about the buying choices they make each day and how they can contact their representatives and promote better product standards.
