Why does art matter?

Art really does matter! I feel every design element starts with art or the knowledge of art history. Being aware of the Artist and his or hers style is very important. For example the IPhone has a minimalist approach to which covers style and also helps with usability for customers. The Art style I feel pays homage to arts like Tony Smith but more symmetrical. Reading is the best of way to acquire knowledge of art history. Understanding the movement and intention of a work of art may inspire future design.
