Art Matters

I’ve always loved art even though I’ve never been much of an artist. On multiple occasions while traveling and visiting multiple art museums, including The Louvre and Museo del Prado, my friends have left me to wander around the museum by myself because I spent about 2 hours longer soaking up the art than they did. I’m always amazed and inspired after I leave a museum or gallery. The idea of creating something that endures for centuries is both daunting and incredibly rewarding. And because art adapts and changes and goes through movements and trends, I think it is indispensably valuable for me to be knowledgeable about the art world.

This quote is one of my favorites and it heavily applies to the idea of art in this program. Nothing is original. We all draw inspiration from what we have seen before, whether that means we create something similar or we diverge completely from that idea. It’s incredibly important for us to know about these styles and artists because very little of the art today has been created or recreated online. We can find these artists and visual media gurus everywhere online. One place that I visit frequently and features new designers each week is Abduzeedo. It’s really great to see how graphic designers are fusing old and new aesthetics to create both digital and print media.
