Expectations

When I was little I wanted to be a veterinarian, then it was a baseball player, followed by a doctor, an actress, an athletic trainer, and finally I settled in on filmmaker. I went off to college to pursue my dreams and through various class assignments, positions within on-campus television and radio stations, and eventually jobs with prominent media companies, I found a passion for television producing that honed in on documentary storytelling.  I’ve lived in Colorado, Georgia, Virginia, New York, and California and traveled to Canada, the Dominican Republic, England, Spain, and Morocco meeting local citizens and talking about deeply rooted social justice issues that exist in our everyday lives.  Yet one thing I’ve found is that we all share a bond, a love for and an opinion on that which the media provides us.  Through this class I hope to dive into an understanding of how we perceive art and aesthetics from the different lenses of our backgrounds and experiences and how to create work that transcends all lines and barriers.  I hope to find inspiration in the works of other successful artists and my fellow classmates and to be encouraged to grow beyond my comfort zone, finding innovative ways to express my own creativity and ideas into a tangible product to be shared and enjoyed by all.
