Title Sequence Junkie

I have a problem.

I’ve been giddy at the thought of writing this blog post for two weeks. However, every time I sit down, I watch (and rewatch) on average 15-20 title sequences without ever writing a single world. Apparently I really want an excuse to gorge myself on an inordinate amount of opening and closing credits.

Since it’s almost 2:00 and I will never get any work done if I continue down this path, let’s start with movies:

Every James Bond film ever made consistently features a visually intriguing, unique (and often trippy) opening sequence. I’m often as excited about the nonsensical, made-for-movie theme song and its inspired graphic interpretation as I am about the movie itself.

Also, Scott Pilgrim vs the World combines clever, well-placed video game sound effects not only in its opening, but throughout the entire film.

Current TV Shows:

Game of Thrones is not only the best show on television, but also happens to have arguably one of the greatest openings ever crafted: fierce cello and a stunning three-dimensional, interactive map of Westeros.

Anime:

Shinichiro Watanabe has the Midas Touch. Whether it’s the jazz-infused space romp, Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo, a show featuring a breakdancing Ronin, expect stunning visuals, catchy music and an equally engaging story.
