Memorable Title Sequences

This was a difficult blog to complete because as I kept watching multiple title sequences, it was harder and harder for me to not look up the movie on Netflix to watch it to its entirety. But I guess that means the animators and designs for these movies are doing their job really well, right? My most recent favorite title sequence comes from Skyfall, the newest James Bond movie. The animation in it is done beautifully and it doesn’t hurt that it’s paired so well with Adele’s soulful and haunting tune. Also, like Craig mentioned, I love the opening credits for Catch Me If You Can. Is that Helvetica I see? It rings very similar to the Down With Love credits.

Completely deviating from Skyfall and Catch Me If You Can, I love the Enchanted opening credits as well. As a ‘happily ever after’ story, it is only fitting that the credits take the audience through a storybook. Slightly lacking in originality, but done well nonetheless. These credits are similar to the ones in my favorite movie, The Family Stone. Although I can’t find the credits online, you should watch this movie for much more than the credits. Especially considering, it is a wonderful holiday movie.

Now, being that these are all movies that I have previously seen, I went to look for a title sequence for a movie that I hadn’t seen before and I happened to wonderfully stumble upon Le Petit Nicolas. I found the credits adorable and telling a story within themselves, making a pop-up book come to life. The animation was created by Kuntzel + Deygas using the original drawings of the French cartoonist, Jean-Jacques Sempé. Maybe it’s just my love of French things, specifically music, that I found this so adorable. The thing that I know about opening credits? They have the ability to be memorable and tell a story, or be boring titles at the beginning of a movie. I greatly appreciate when the extra effort is put into this aspect of production.
