Rick Morris

I watched the documentary on Rick Morris. I chose this one because I enjoy motion graphics. I enjoyed seeing how he works, what inspires him, and his views on art and motion graphics.

It’s always interesting to see designers and artists point out that the most important tool they use is pen and paper. We rely on computer and computer software so much but sketching and getting ideas down on a blank canvas is so important. I liked what he said about it’s not enough to just know After Effects. The art and style constantly changes so much that it’s important to know many types of styles, software, etc. I can also relate to how he finds inspiration. Especially for art, inspiration is all around from traditional art, architecture, and music. I find a lot of inspiration in music and when I listen to certain songs it can put me in a mood to express that feeling. Rick Morris also points out that it’s helpful to have a deep passion for what you do and to have love in your life. This reminds me of a quote by Steve Jobs: “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” This was huge for me in switching my career fields and is what is driving me in my current role now.
