For today’s blog post, I took a look at Harry Marks, Broadcast Designer. My background is in television production and I dabbled in making graphics for the various shows that we produced. But one of the most challenging and what was rewarding was making 3D graphics for a show.
Now I am no Harry Marks; I didn’t create these grand scale 3D graphics that took up a whole screen but a little cube in the corner that turned every few seconds with our logo on it. However, I absolutely love what Marks is doing. Marks talks about how 3D graphics break the standards of television. He says:
“I saw it as a way to make the world behind that little tube infinite and I think what we did, it’s opened up the television screen.”
More and more companies want 3D animations for their projects whether it’s for the latest action show or a commercial for Pepsi. These 3D graphics also make producing television a lot cheaper. Instead of hiring actors, directors, production assistants, production coordinators etc. for a daylong shoot, you can instead hire a few people to create the graphics and then edit the video. 3D graphics are opening up new possibilities for television that I think will only advance over time.
