Data Visualization (Richardson)

Data visualization seems like a field with a lot of possibilities. It really is the central building block of infographic creation. And it’s an important concept to consider when moving forward with constructing our infographics for class.

There are a lot of weird filmmaking choices here. For the most part I feel like the film, especially the first half, was devoid of music or any stylization whatsoever. There is awkward framing and not enough headroom in some of the interview shots. Even at times the audio is shotty, with jump cuts and unexpected audio spikes. Overall the film seems quite unpolished. For a film that emphasizes the importance of visual stylization, there is not much stylistic consistency in the presentation of the film.

But back to the purpose of the film, the takeaway here is to consider implementing creatively designed data visualization in media plans. It is one thing to be a graphic designer. It is another thing entirely to be a graphic designer capable of weaving information into your designs in a creative and visually striking manner. Data visualization is a key concept that we must hold on to as we push forward in our careers. As I am discovering while working on this infographic assignment, it’s not as easy as it appears.
