Is this the Real Story of Cosmetics?

This website, The Story of Stuff, is very creative. It is a great collection of data and information. There were many articles and videos that appealed to me but the one that I believed to be the most shocking was The Story of Cosmetics.

After watching The Story of Cosmetics, I immediately began to question every product that I use. My deodorant, shampoo, body washes have me on edge. I have always questioned the levels of toxicity within these products but I never knew how extreme they were. The design for this video was very visual and helped form the big picture of the issue at hand.

Throughout the video, I posed the question, “Why doesn’t the government stop this?” To me, it just does not make sense. If PETA exists to prevent harm from animals, why isn’t there something to protect us? I honestly believe that priorities of this country are out of order.

I never realized the impact of how the consistent use of the carcinogens could be so harmful. It sad to see that children are being affected by this as well. My grandfather passed away from cancer last January and I have a personal connection to the disease. Now, not only will I question the products that I choose but I will also make an attempt to be more conscious of what I buy and spread the word.
