I believe that as a visual artist, it is fundamental in having knowledge about specific genres of art and those that have contributed. For the last week, we have talked about Realism, Expressionism, Formalism and Post-Modernism. I believe that our in-depth analysis for these works and their creators have provided us with the knowledge and ability to critically think and comprehend characteristics and reasonings behind these artistic choices.
When we create art, we are able to understand the basic principles and use examples from artists that we admire to inspire and cultivate how we create.
I believe that it is highly beneficial to know of creative leaders in my field. Not only does it show my seriousness of wanting to be successful within the field, but it can also set me apart from my application pool. Knowing of these modern day creators and innovators allows me to see and understand how they work and how professionals in my field critique and learn of new ways to be creative. Going about learning of the professionals is as simple as using “Google”. I could also visit their website/portfolio pages and connect directly to them through LinkedIn.com. As of recently, I have been connecting and networking with similar artists and professionals through Twitter and Instagram.
