Visual Aesthetics Expectations

In regards to Visual Aesthetics, I have a few expectations.

First of all, I expect to take the programs we’ve learned and use them to actually create my own designs. I want to be able to design beautiful and visually pleasing things that have originated in my mind, rather than just capture what has already been created. This desire comes from my background in photography. I love photography and am very passionate about it, however, sometimes I feel like I’m not actually creating. Sometimes I think about how I’m really taking pictures of what something else has created, whether it is by nature or an architect or a make up artist.

Secondly, I expect to learn more about designing for the masses. I want to learn the trends in marketing design and take the trends to a new level. I want to learn the tricks on how to get people to feel something when look at a page or a website. This really stems from my background as the layout designer of my junior and senior high school yearbooks but also from my internships in marketing and graphic design.

Finally, I expect to use Motely and my classmates as listening and learning tools. I want the critiques to be more than just “that’s cool” or “I don’t like it.” I’ve had those types of critiques in the past and they do not help! I know that many of my classmates have a lot more experience in some of the programs we’ll be using and I hope to learn from them as well as help them push their design limits to the edge.
