What single example of design inspires you most?

Most of these videos are about 2 minutes in length, so the information that is provided is meant to get to the viewer quickly.  I’m not sure if I can write large paragraphs on each video, so I think it might be more beneficial for me to just make a list of the key ideas for a few videos.

1. Emily Pilloton – Do More With Less. Be like the MacGyver of design.  Focus on the basic elements of design. Focus on process.

2. Jack McCabe – Tabula Rasa. At the end of the day, nothing beats sitting down and using a pencil and paper to sketch out ideas.  It feels natural.  Best part of his day is using a pencil to draw.

3. Tony Hawk – For the People. Apple products are for the people.  Their products echo family values, ease of use, fun, simplicity.  This needs to continue as technology continues to develop.  Apple is really good at this.

4. Joe Duffy – All Natural.  He can’t pinpoint a certain artist that has inspired him more than nature.  Graphic interpretions of nature; use of color, shape, etc.  We must protect it.

5. Ric Grefe – Empathy. Design that blows him away. “I couldn’t have done that” moments.  These works inspire him greatly. He wants to see designers design their place in the world; they are great thinkers.  They should design to improve the quality of life for people.

6. Karen Edwards – Permanence.  She mentions how the 18th century wine glasses have made a simple occassion seem special.  The design is simple, functional, yet unique.  It has a human touch. Sustainability in design.  Design for something to last.  Simplicity can be timeless.

Most of these videos seemed to sell the idea of simplicity.  I’ll definitely come back to these videos at some point.  I really like how they are really short, but they have big ideas.
