I watched a number of these videos and found them enjoyable because of the diverse collection of opinions and ideas. The first video I watched was Allen Chochinov addressing the issues of social change and how the design approach should be holistic. His example about using painted jukebox coins to differentiate between customer and owner coins was very interesting. I really enjoyed his simplistic and optimistic views of inspiration and implementation strategies.
The second video I watched was Jessica Hische. I absolutely loved her down-to-earth and realistic attitude. She is young and relatable; I really enjoyed her story of what inspired her to become a designer. She took something so simple, the Smashing Pumpkins album, and her hobby of doodling on her notebook in school and found inspiration and her passion. I hate to admit that we are moving into the digital age where we turn to the web for all our information and inspiration. However, I agree with Hische in that designers need to address the problems that will arise from the death of print, like fair credit and wages for digital designers.
My favorite video that I watched was Luis Fitch. It was strange but kind of funny in that he wore a Mexican wrestling outfit and spent majority of the video showing viewers how to make guacamole. Although he has a humorous approach to his work, he addressed something I strongly agree with – instead of designers and people trying to tackle huge, broad issues like breast cancer, we must start small and address immediate problems of cross cultural design. His realistic approach can be useful in any career field. If people cant communicate or understand each other than the cause is lost.
