Data Visualization and Infographics: A Balancing Act

Watching this documentary kept ISSOTL fresh in my mind– specifically the RoSE tool and how it is an example of visualized data that is desperately in need of help (unfortunately it is neither aesthetically pleasing nor functional, but I still very much like the concept!).

We also explored similar themes at Iconathon this past Saturday. Organizers from Duke University and The Noun Project asked participants to split up into groups so that there was an even distribution of designers, critical thinkers, and informed citizens. While designers have the ability to transform various concepts into visually striking graphics, those graphics may not always best convey the concept/data in a way that is easy to understand, which is why it is especially helpful to collaborate with a diverse group of individuals.
