Typography; I never knew it could be so interesting, and thought provoking. This was my first time watching this documentary Helvetica, and surprisingly I found it quite entertaining. I had never thought, or viewed fonts in this way before, nor had I thought about how much time people and thought people put into creating different typefaces.
The film made me highly aware that fonts, are all around me and different people, organizations, and companies put a lot of time into choosing the right font, to fit the feel they are trying to convey. The film in a way almost makes me view typography as an art. It takes skill, time, and creativity to create a new typeface, and to have it mean something.
Through viewing this film, I’m not sure if I’ll ever look at typefaces the same, but I feel this new view on type will greatly enhance my knowledge on visual design. Type is used in everything, and if I understand what type of fonts to use, and deliberately choose my typefaces, my designs will be much more powerful.
