…I am so glad I am not the only one that found this reading confusing and all over the place.
In “Stitch Bitch,” author Shelly Jackson, argues her points that her favorite style of writing, non-linear, hypertext, is just as good of a read as a linear novel is. In this chapter, she listed several comparisons to linear and non-linear forms of writing.
Jackson talks about expressing our feelings however we want to through writing anything we want down. I liked reading that. This made me think about people who keep journals or enjoy writing but are too afraid to share their words.
Jackson goes on to tell us the reasons that she is fond of hypertext. That it is uneven terrain, it keeps moving and doesn’t stop, it is hard to follow, and it jumps from one area to another to another. She enjoys reading the disoriented feel that is all over the place. The author describes hypertext as “schizophrenic.” I felt a little crazy myself trying to follow her thoughts in this reading. She said this hypertext is not for the reader who wants to keep reading and find out what happens next or who wants to read from beginning to end with a linear format.
I feel the author has valid points that showed how hypertext could be read and enjoyed by many. In my opinion, she proved her point in this reading that was all over the place and difficult to follow. I now know that I am not one of those people who enjoys hypertext.
