Evan’s Stitch Bitch

When I first started reading this chapter written by Shelley Jackson Stitch Bitch: The Patchwork Girl I was immediately reading something that almost made me sick to my stomach, and disoriented.  Her writing style is something that I was not accustomed to reading, and at first was confused on her focus and purpose of this piece.

When reading a little further into the chapter, I found her thoughts on hypertext interesting, and I also loved how positive her message was on writing.  She describes hypertext as, “ nonlinear, almost by default.”  But her positivity on the topic is refreshing.  “  Every new form will inspire mediocre works as well as great ones, and while even mediocrity can be interesting when the form is new, it doesn’t remain so.”

Her idea that this hypertext is evolving and progressing, into a new common form on communication is interesting.  Hypertext is a newer form of writing, yet she feels that this style, and any style of writing can be beneficial and help writer’s covey what they want to.  She urged writers, and readers to “write about what interest you, no matter how sniffy the world gets…”  To let your ideas, and emotions flow through writing, and to not let the world tell you what’s right and wrong about writing.  Because there is no right and wrong on writing.  In the end, even though her writing style was disorienting, her words and ideas were refreshing, and warm.
