Topic: Corporate Social Responsibility of one’s employer

Target Audience: College Seniors about to accept their first job offer

Message: Our message is to attempt to highlight the importance of working for a company that prides itself on sourcing sustainable labor, resources, and business practices instead of focusing on maximizing profits and personal gain. We live in a competitive business environment that is emphasizing itself on the predictions of giving back to local and global communities. However, we want to make students understand if their intended company does the same.

Video: Our video will be of a student about to post on LinkedIn stating their job offer but suddenly sees a news article highlighting poor business practices and a lack of CSR, and decides to change their mind. This video will be 50 seconds. We will release a second video that defines CSR and describes how employees can benefit from CSR.

ENDING HUNGER

PSA Draft

Andrea Peters

My PSA video was created as a campaign for the American-based organization, “No Kid Hungry”. It is intended to highlight three key characteristics of the American middle/upper class. Firstly, the overwhelming distractions of American culture. We as a society place so much importance on material wealth that it is easy to forget about the possibility of sharing with those in need. The example used of being “given” $100 takes away the argument against sharing because of technicalities such as having “earned” the money. I gave people a free (figurative) $100 to do with whatever they wish- and as seen they choose to buy frivolous things time and time again. Yet when the option to donate was suggested, every participant responded positively. This goes to show that people want to help, and are willing to do so. Then finally, when asked if they knew how to go about donating, or even where to start, they “had no idea”. These are all important questions for us to keep in mind- the video presented works to answer them and inspire action.

PSA

For our PSA video, we wanted to focus in on the Elon community. The term “global citizen” can often times be very ambiguous so we were interested to see what our fellow classmates and employees would respond to our question “what is a global citizen?” We tried to include a diverse group of subjects as well as gathered a range of opinions and definitions. The message of this video is to highlight these range of opinions and make the viewer really think about what the term means to them.

  • The point of our PSA is to evoke thought from students and staff at Elon to define term global citizen and hopefully think of an action plan of how they can strive to become one.  We found this important because we have noticed that many people at Elon think about themselves and the groups of people around them, ignoring larger issues around the world. We have had the opportunity to become aware of this through our class, and want others to start thinking about what we have been studying, as it can apply to everyone. So, in the end we are trying to encourage people to step outside of their comfort zone and acknowledge, or generate an awareness of a term that they can now achieve to be.
  • We can move the needle forward, because the people who are being interviewed or viewers of our PSA, have a moment to think about what it means to be a global citizen, and therefore presents the opportunity for these people to change. So through more awareness of the term, it is more likely for more people to be the one who take action in humanitarian aid efforts.
  • Our plan: To capture videos of people of different generations giving a response to the question “What is a global citizen?”. We want to hear their response without any background knowledge, and inform them that it is okay to be unsure and say they don’t know.  To piece together the video we will use transitions so that the collection of people flows nicely in the video, and are hoping to add background music that is kept the same during the video. Since the responses are going to be longer than the length of the PSA, we will have to edit the clips to determine what would strengthen and share the message of the PSA best.
