The Center for Creative leadership is a non-profit organization recognized as a top provider of leadership development worldwide. The customers of CCL value learning new leadership skills that will better them in every day life and in their business interactions to a high extent since the programs are fairly expensive (ex: $11,000 for a one-week session). Companies sending their employees to CCL value a return on their investment. They want their employees to be successful leaders to ensure a better work environment and better business results.

CCL is recognized as a top-ranked global provider of executive education. The organization is extremely successful, especially for a non-profit organization, due to its high amount of returning customers and high-profile clients. The main result is producing better leaders worldwide.

Therefore, CCL’s plan is to continue to provide high-quality leadership development worldwide. The organization will strive to keep its customers up to date with the best leadership skills by researching and analyzing. Our speaker emphasized the importance of being challenged in our course of study. The organization appears to believe in challenging itself to ensure that it is constantly learning and providing the best information to its customers as possible.

I really enjoyed today’s visit because we were able to interact with activities and presentations to better learn how to be a leader. The activity’s message was very valuable. The idea that one should always use their available resources was eye-opening. As a group, we assumed that we couldn’t use the internet as a resource to figure out how to balance the nails. Yet, the assumption was just in our heads. The activity was a very clever way to make me realize that I don’t always use all of my resources to solve problems, as I did not think to use the internet. During our visit, I was also very impressed with how nice the building was for a non-profit organization. I believe that the work CCL does is very valuable to businesses and to people living their every day lives. One day I may even need their expertise.

Today we visited the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro. One of the first things that you notice as you walk in is that the building is the total opposite of what most non-profit organizations look like, this was one of the first things that our Leader talked about. The inspiration for the CCL came from the visionary and highly successful businessman H. Smith Richardson Sr. In 1970 the Smith Richardson Foundation Inc. provided the funding for the Center for Creative Leadership. The mission of the CCL is to advance the understanding, practice and development of leadership for the benefit of society worldwide. The customers’ of CCL are individuals and companies who are trying to improve their careers. It is always important for individuals no matter what field you are in to improve on their leadership skills. These types of people are who CCL is focused on, people who are searching for this success while also trying to reflect on what they have been doing right in the past. CCl’s customers value the high level of leadership training and skills they or their employees receive while at CCL. The customers also value the ability that CCL has to match their customers with the program that best fits what the customer is trying to get out of their sessions.

 

CCL’s results can be seen all over the world. This is shown by the fact that they have helped develop leaders from more than 120 countries. The CCL annually serves more than 20,000 individuals and 2,000 organizations including more than 80 of the Fortune 100 companies across the public, private, nonprofit and education sectors. Last year alone, they funded 255 scholarships at a value of more than $1 million for leaders of nonprofit organizations to attend CCL education programs. In addition, their knowledge was disseminated to nearly two million people through CCL publications. CCl’s plan is to continue to improve in anyway possible. It plans to continue researching new ways for leaders to be effective and will continue to create programs that will tailor fit its customers desires.

Today’s (1/13) visit was to the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, NC. The Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement and development of professionals, and teaches effective standards of leadership to employees across the world. Not only did we receive a tour of the facility and a short presentation of the organization”s vision and history, we also had a planned classroom session with some team activities and a hands-on group presentation.

For over 40 years, the Center has worked with tens of thousands of companies in 130 different countries in an attempt to help create a world of stronger leaders and successful businesses. Greensboro is the site of the organization’s corporate headquarters, and is a beautifully designed and decorated complex spanning a few dozen acres. Also in the Greensboro facility is the world’s single largest library dedicated solely to leadership, and a bookshop full of self-published and third-party titles mostly pertaining to leadership (surprise). Thinking about it, that was a word we heard a lot of today.

What makes the Center for Creative Leadership a more successful non-profit organization (NPO) compared to others? The building itself was decorated in hundreds of works of original art and sculpture, and was much more luxurious than any other NPO I’ve ever seen. For starters, the organization has a powerful and direct mission that is specifically prepared for the constantly changing conditions of all economic sectors. In addition, it has something to offer than essentially every company or organization can use – the further education of employees of all levels in the complicated topic that is leadership. Therefore, the Center should theoretically never run out of potential customers, as long as it continues to offer advice and solutions unique from that of any other similar leadership “academy.” One quotation from our presenter about the topic of resilience reads “what’s today’s fast is tomorrow’s slow.”

During the tour, we learned that Ph.D students are some of the most frequent visitors of the facility and library system, but most of the week-long program clients are working professionals. Drucker’s Third question asks what the customer values, and we learned that customers value financial success and healthy companies. This ties into the fourth question, and the results of the Center’s education is clear. The CCL not only assists in helping small companies succeed where many others have failed, but helps boost the peak performance of many already established, Fortune 100 companies. Part of the CCL’s philosophy is the advancement of education for employees throughout all power levels in a company, not just the elite. 20%, 27%, and 30% of all program participants are comprised of executive, middle-level, and upper-middle levels in their respective companies. A whopping 83% of participants are from the private sector, although education, public, and nonprofit organizations send participants as well.

Not only is the CCL providing an innovative service to thousands of companies each year, they are fully prepared update their policies and education to successfully adapt to the ever-changing conditions of economies in the 21st century. This is a trend I’ve started to notice throughout the companies we’ve been visiting – not only does the company have a successful concept of the present, but is also planning infinitely into the future in order to stay afloat. I’m hoping to find similar traits in the 100+ year companies that groups will be presenting on towards the end of the semester.

Center for Creative Leadership Visit and Tour

Today our class visited the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Center for Creative Leadership or the CCL is a non-profit organization. Also the CCL contains several different programs that help create and coach leadership skills to whom ever wants to learn more about becoming a more effective leader. The CCL contains many other different facilities in other countries like Singapore, China, Ethiopia, Brussels, Belgium, Russia, and more. The facility in Greensboro is the head quarters of the worldwide provider of leadership development.

The Center for Creative Leadership’s mission is to help individuals and organizations across the globe unlock their leadership potential. One of the most important statements our guide, Deborah Friedman, said was that you don’t need to be a genius to be a leader. Also intelligence is very important but without any leadership skills, intelligence doesn’t mean any thing when trying to become a leader. The CCL’s customers and clients mostly include high level businessmen and women. About 20,000 individuals from 3,000 organizations seek the Center for Creative Leadership’s help in enhancing their organization’s leaders. The customers of the Center of Creative Leadership value the meaningful programs and experiences that the CCL provides to help enhance their leadership skills. Each organization seeks the CCL to provide leadership development for a positive effect in their organization. The results that the Center for Creative Leadership has earned the past 40 years is extraordinary. Unlocking leadership potential for clients has helped accelerate strategies and business results for clients across the world. Their clients have ranked the CCL among the top ten of executive education in the world.

The Center for Creative Leadership’s plan is to make sure to always have cutting edge material to help instill better leadership skills in organizations and individuals across the globe. Even though they have had so much success with their past and current models for leadership development our guide mentioned that they are always embracing change to improve their own equipment for leadership development. Conclusively, leadership as an important facet of every organization will never change but the way the center helps develop leadership skills in organizations or individuals will change to better suit every client. Overall, the visit and the tour at the Center for Creative Leadership was extremely interesting and was a very good opportunity for all of us to have. Also I hope that the organization I work for in the future permits us to enroll in programs at the Center for Creative Leadership.

The Center for Creative Leadership

The Center for Creative Leadership was a good place to go to in my opinion.  It was very informative about not only what the company does for other people but it was also a good trip for personal reflection on how us as individuals are leaders and how we can be more of a leader in certain areas. I understood why we were doing all of the interactive exercises, but I feel like they got a little bit repetitive at times and from how the presenter was acting to some of the repeated responses, it seemed like she was sort of having the same opinion. But don’t get me wrong I understood why we were doing these individual reflection-type activities and how we can use our leadership skills. From the presentation and tour, the mission statement is very spot-on about what they do. The mission of the Center for Creative Leadership is to provide unparalleled expertise in helping individuals and organizations around the world unlock their leadership potential.

CCL’s customers are individuals and companies who are trying to improve themselves in terms of their personal life and careers. It is very important for individuals and businesses to be looking for how they can improve themselves because in retrospect, one should always be looking for where they can improve upon their past success and how they can make their previous success even better. This is who CCL is focused on, the people who are searching for this success while also trying to reflect on what they have been doing right in the past.

The customer values creative learning opportunities so that they go into these conferences and programs knowing that the people they are about to meet should have enough education in this industry to evaluate them and give them the right exercises and pathways to follow. The customers value professional help with activities and future plans that are conducive to the betterment of themselves and the people around them, or their organization.

The result of CCL is that they will continue to provide their customers with great services that are effective. The customers are paying thousands of dollars for the programs that Deborah Friedman presented to our class, so if they do not see improvement then the results of the CCL are completely flawed. She never told us this, but since there is a waiting line for some of the programs, they must be coming up with new ideas for programs so that there is less of a wait and people can use their services as soon as possible. Overall, the results of the CCL are to keep successfully helping individuals and organization reveal their inner leadership skills to themselves.

The plan of the CCL is to pretty much follow what is in their 2011-2012 annual report that was given to us during their presentation. There are 5 big ideas in the report: 1) Get your brain in the game, 2) Expand the leadership equation, 3) Nurture your networks, 4) Power up non-profit partnerships, and 5) elevate coaching impact. CCL’s plan is to continue to provide excellent services to the people that wish to improve their leadership capabilities. In my personal opinion, I think the networks portion is the most important part of the report because it really provides the basis for all of the other big ideas. Who you know can provide insight to every single one of the other big ideas.

CCL stands for Center for Creative Leadership and they are a non-profit organization, which enables them to focus even more on the leadership development services they provide to their customers. With their five buildings in four different countries, they are able to reach more than 120 countries and over 3,000 organizations.

Who is their customer?

CCL has nearly 21,000 customers who are various types of leaders from the 3,000 businesses they deal with every year. The majority of their customers are for-profit organizations such as Sonoco, CrediCorp, and Xerox Corporation. However, they also train leaders from school systems and universities such as Boston University and Fairfax County Public Schools. The people they work with in their programs are often the leaders and managers of the organizations, such as company executives and floor managers who benefit the most from the seminars and training they receive while at CCL. No matter what company they work for, all customers are the people who wish to enhance their leadership skills to the highest levels.

What does the customer value?

Since CCL is a non-profit company, what the customers value is not monetary. Instead the customers value the high level of leadership training and skills they or their employees receive while at CCL. In addition, the customers value the ability that CCL has to match their customer with the program that best fits what the customer is trying to get out of their sessions. Since CCL has numerous programs, it is up to the workers at CCL to find the right match.

What are their results?

CCL’s results can be seen all over the world. Since opening in 1970 its impact has spread to over 120 countries and four continents from its initial single building. It has become known worldwide as having some of of the top leadership programs in the world and will continue to only get better.

What is our plan?

CCL’s plan is to continue to improve in any way possible. While the organization could easily continue as it is now and still be very successful, it plans to continue researching new ways for leaders to be effective and will continue to create programs that will tailor fit its customers desires.

As a non-profit organization, CCL’s mission is to educate high-level executives on the importance and benefits of leadership for their companies.  As we learned from our guide, intelligence is an important skill to have, but without any solid and useful leadership skills, all of the intelligence is for nothing.  They have several different types of programs to suit the needs of all individuals interested in learning more about how they can improve their ability to be a leader.

CCL mostly serves high C-level business men and women from around the country.  Its world headquarters are based here in Greensboro, NC but also has spots all across the world including Singapore, Brussels Belgium, Russia and San Diego. It reaches more than 120 countries.  Almost 21,000 leaders from 3,000 organizations engage with CCL each and every year to think and act beyond the boundaries that limit their effectiveness.  These are individuals looking to enhance their personal leadership effectiveness and bring it back to their companies to instill positive change.

While the cost of the CCL programs are quite high, the value that the customers receive from participating in the programs are very meaningful.  The skills they acquire not only help immensely in their business and professional lives, but also with every day life as well.  As much as CCL will help them make money, an effective leader will help in all ways of life.  For the money, the program is completely worth it and that is why companies continually send their employees back to CCL organizations each and every year.  Investing in the employees leadership skills is the best way to invest in the overall health and longevity of the company.

What are CCL’s results?

CCL has continued to be at the top of the line for leadership education throughout the world.  At almost 21,000 individuals per year, it has been a very popular spot for top companies to send their employees.  This is evidence alone to prove how useful and revered CCL is to its clients.  But even take a look at the companies that CCL has served.  The list includes Wells Fargo, CNN, Ford, Time Warner and World Bank just to name a few.  So many top companies have used CCL in the past.  Although it’s hard to prove the relationship between leadership and the amount of money a company makes as a result statistically, there is no doubt that leadership is the only thing that makes a company successful.  Proper leadership results in successful companies.

What is CCL’s plan?

CCL’s plan is to always keep on the cutting edge of leadership skills.  While they could probably rest on their previous success and business models, CCL is always looking to improve upon the way they conduct themselves. The topic of leadership will not change, but the ways CCL will analyze and choose to teach their clients about the different facets of leadership will change.  By challenging themselves to not stay comfortable doing the same thing year to year, CCL will continue to be one of the top educational Leadership educators in the world for years to come.

Center for Creative Leadership

Today we went to the Center for Creative Leadership. The Center was started when the creator of Vick’s Vapo Rub realized that although he had surrounded himself with intelligent people he had not surrounded himself within enough leaders. After having been a huge success he eventually created the Center for Creative Leadership so that research could be conducted and better leaders could be made.

My own personal experience in leadership derives from my job as a camp counselor. On an obvious level I need to be a leader to the kids in my bunk and find ways to make them happier at camp as their leader. Behind the scenes though I also need to be a leader. As the years have gone by I have become one of the oldest and most capable counselors which puts me in a position where my actions are considered to be the example for younger counselors. When learning about leadership today I found that it was extremely applicable to my experience at camp.

The mission of CCL is definitely to create better leaders around the world. They are expanding everywhere to big businesses to the slums of poorer countries. Hopefully one day they will be able to provide their education for people at a much cheaper cost.

Everybody can be considered a customer to CCL. They mainly cater to large businesses in the private sector and some government organizations, but the research they have done is beneficial to all people that hope to become leaders.

The customers that they do have care about becoming better leaders. People come from all over the world just to train for a few days in hopes that what they learn helps them to become better at what they do.

This has resulted in better leadership around the globe. CCL has reached out to places all over the world to help create better leaders. In some places they have helped citizens of the slums gain hope that they may one day have a better life. They have taught women’s groups about leadership and many other organizations around the globe. From a business standpoint it has created a culture in which great business leaders feel they can be made or improve their leadership style. It has added an entirely new level of competition within the business world.

And now as they have continued to grow the plan is that CCL will be able to expand around the globe and create better leaders everywhere.

Today we visited the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro. They have a beautiful facility that is landlocked by the watershed, but they have designed the center to look like a college campus which gives it an inviting feel. The center is a nonprofit organization, despite how it does not come off like it only runs off of peoples donations. It was founded in 1970 as a research think tank by the Richardson Foundation. The CCL reaches more than 120 coutnries from locations on 4 countries. They have facilities in Greensboro, San Diego, Brussels Belgium, Russia and CIS, and also Singapore. They are the heads of the leadership world, and it is clear that they will do what ever it takes to remain successful.

The mission of the CCL is to provide what no one else can: unparalled expertise in helping individuals ad organizations around the world unlock their leadership potentials. This just goes to show how they have a passion to be the best and with their help, a person can gain the leadership skills to make them the most successful at what they do.

The customers of the CCL are anyone who desires to obtain the highest of quality leadership training that they can, and many companies send their people there. Some of these people are individual contributors, professional staff and emerging leaders. Leaders of individual contributors, leaders and managers or senior professional staff, leaders of functions or divisions, leaders of enterprise, upper-level executives and senior managers responsible for strategy in their organizations, leaders of cross-functional or dispersed teams, leaders responsible for managing, coaching or leading others, HR managers, executive coaches and consultants, Mid- to senior- level women managers or HR professionals. As one can see, there are so many different positions that attend the CCL and from here they can help turn an average company or organization into an elite one.

What the customer values is simple.. they value the top of the line leadership training for themselves or for their employees. There are so many different programs that the CCL offers, the customer wants the one that will help better all the aspects of the work field that they are working in.

The results are clear, that the CCL has become the top of the leadership training world and only want to get better at what they do. Last year the Ccl had a total revenue of 99.2 million dollars, which for a nonprofit organization is nearly out of this world. Of this 99.2 million, 85.7% came from tuition, program and coaching fees, then 5.9% was products and publications, 5.8% grants and research contracts, 1.7% licensee royalties and fees, and finally 0.9% donations and other income.

The plan for CCL is to continue to improve and make new discoveries in the field of leadership. Deborah Friedman who gaves us the tour said that CCL wants to be cutting edge, and they are never satisfied with the success that they have had and want to continue to improve and do new things. Also in there CCL annual report, they found five big ideas that they are going to now focus on; get your brain in the game, expand the leadership equation, nurture your network, power up nonprofit partnerships, and elevate coaching impact. Form these plans and the success that the CCL has already attained, it is clear that they have everything going on for themselves and will continue to be pioneers in the field of leadership.
