SAS visit

Today our class visited the SAS in Carey, North Carolina. The company’s 900 acre complex is a sprawling metropolis consisting of 22 difference buildings with various functions. The main function of the company is computer programming and software solutions, however the various departments cover a wide variety of jobs.

 

1. What is SAS’s mission?

The main mission of SAS is to take care of their employees. Although the main work of the company revolves around software development that can be utilized easily for large corporations, the company puts a huge emphasis on keeping employees happy. The founder and CEO of SAS, Dr. Goodnight, considers his employees to be 95% of his assets of the entire company. The accommodating design of the complex is intended for all employees to reap all of the benefits the corporation has to offer. By remaining a private organization, the company is able to offer its employees day care facilities, fitness facilitates, a pharmacy, and primary care. The value in the company remains on the employees, as it has since the creating of the organization and will continue to be. This policy ensures that happy employees are more productive and benefit the company more in the long run.

2. Who is their customer?

The customer base for SAS are large corporations who need the data they take in to be processed. The software leased to them by SAS allows them to account for data such as click count on websites, number of purchases, and turnaround time on products. This software allows companies to predict trends for products and stay organized by compiling the data and creating reports to be used for further predictions.

3.  What does their customer value?

The customer of SAS values quality work and customer service. The accessibility of the customer service is something that SAS customers can depend on and allows them to develop trust with the company. SInce the software is leased rather than required to be repurchased repeatedly when new updates come along, SAS customers also value the quality of the products that they are paying for and investing in. This means that no matter what new updated versions of software come out, loyal customers will be able to utilize the new technology easily.

4. What are their results?

The result of SAS’s measures to ensure customer and employee satisfaction has allowed them to become a competitive and successful software solutions company. Their efforts to maintain employee happiness has allowed them to maintain a 4% employee turnover rate, which is nearly 11% lower than the industry average for similar companies. The company has also been expanded to various countries including France, Singapore, and Germany. Although these facilities hold different customs, they all run on the same values and goals.

5. What is SAS’s plan?

The plan for the future of the company is to continue expanding and never change their values. Although revenue has increased consistently for the past 36 years, an incredible statistic, the company hopes the increase the amount that revenue grows by each year by greater amounts. Their success thus far and customer loyalty should be indications of how the future of their business will continue to operate.
