Today we visited SAS Institute in Cary, North Carolina which is a developer of analytics software and one of the world’s largest private software companies. The mission of SAS is very unique compared to its competitors, providing top quality service to its customers but also providing its employees with one of the best places to work. SAS has been listed among the best companies to work list every year in the United States since its inception in the late 1990’s. The mission of SAS is to provide powerful data-mining programs that are easy to use to their clients while having outstanding benefits for their employees to promote a worker-freindly atmosphere with extremely loyal employees. The official mission statement of SAS is that the company helps organizations anticipate and optimize business opportunities. They do this through advanced analytics that turn data about customers, performance, financials and more into meaningful information. They truly to transform the way their customers do business.

Who are SAS’s customers?

We learned today that SAS’s customer base is very vast, servicing many top companies all around the world. The partners of SAS are also very powerful including Accenture, Deloitte, EMC Greenplum, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Oracle, and Capgemini. SAS is the world leader in advanced analytics with 36.2% of the share in the market. SAS has customers from all over the world as its 13,000 employees are scattered over 55 different countries. The companies’ analytic software even serves the government, along with many other customers. Retail stores such as Kohl’s are able to use SAS’ software to help price items, decide when to have sales, predict future trends, and do many other important statistical analyses to better their company, making SAS very valuable to all of its customers.

What do SAS’s customers value?

SAS’s customers value business with SAS because of the results that SAS bring them. Their customers value the innovation that they bring to their software programs and products. SAS’s customers expect top of the line leased analytic software. The software is leased to their customers so they can promote customer loyalty and provide effective customer support. The employees of SAS are hired based on not only their intelligence and work ethic, but their approachability and trustworthy-ness in order to keep their customers happy. SAS is expected to be on top of economic trends and software trends to maintain their ability to stay innovative. If a company comes to SAS and SAS does not have software to help provide a solution to the customers problem, they will do their best to create a whole new software to satisfy the customer. This allows SAS to keep moving forward and look towards the future.

What are SAS’s results?

SAS has had extremely impressive results. SAS has been profitable each year for 35 years as a private company and approximately a quarter of their revenue is spent on research and development. The CEO of SAS, Jim Goodnight, has been able to keep the company private because of the companies ability to avoid debt and large cash reserves. The campus of SAS is 900 acres, which is very impressive based on the picture of the facility when the company started. Our tour guide made it very clear that SAS is a huge success and it was largely due to employee satisfaction. They were named the World’s Best Multinational Workplace in 2013. SAS has been successful in their innovation and want to continue to be this success in the future years.

What is SAS’s plan?

SAS’s plan is to maintain its unique culture and treat its employees with utmost respect. SAS prides itself on the happiness of its employees, exemplified in the retention rate of 96 percent. They keep their employees happy with great benefits to keep them happy both in and out of the workplace. SAS is always trying to better themselves through the solutions they produce to their customers problems, even if these problems have not occurred yet. Their plan is to stay with current trends and predict future trends. In the next few months they are hoping to enhance their software to be able to work for mobil devices. The company understands that the age of the mobil device is here and they need to change their software to adapt to current and future changes. They understand they live in a fast changing world and need to be prepared for any change to ensure continued success.
