Center for Creative Leadership

The Center for Creative Leadership’s mission is to advance the understanding, practice and development of leadership for the benefit of society worldwide. In order for them to carry this out, the CCL creates new knowledge that advances their field and positively transform the way leaders, their organizations, and societies confront the most difficult challenges of the 21st century.

For over 40 years the Center for Creative Leadership has been providing educational programs and products to its customers, of which include leaders and organizations in the public, corporate and nonprofit sectors. These organizations include more than two-thirds of the the Fortune 100 and approximately 200 institutions. However, the CCL’s customer base also reaches out to thousands of individuals from more than 120 countries who seek to unlock their leadership potential.

The customers of the Center for Creative Leadership share values in the organization’s Open Enrollment Programs themselves, as well as the type of environment and faculty who work with them. Customers expect to have a personal experience that caters to their needs as a future leader and provides the benefit of a singular focus of leadership. With this, they value an honest and intense assessment that offers constructive feedback on how their work style is perceived and how affects others in the process. They also value hands-on or “action” learning, which incorporates teamwork and assessment tools to achieve a particular goal as this is the most effective way to learn. Lastly, they value a safe environment with learning objectives led by knowledgable faculty who have a corporate background. Customers want to be able to use the CCL as a networking opportunity to showcase what they’ve gained as a leader.

The Center for Creative Leadership has been ranked by their clients among the world’s top 10 providers of executive education as surveyed by Businessweek and the Financial Times. In 2012, the company’s total operating revenue surfaced around 99.2 million dollars. Although they have only been around for a little over 40 years, the CCL has been successful because they continue to make their clients their first priority. More so, their nonprofit heritage and educational mission give them a unique flexibility in a world where profit motives often drive actions. Because the world always needs new leaders and this company has a great repertoire, they should not have any financial problems in the near future

Everyone who is employed at the Center for Creative Leadership is an effective leader, and effective leaders always have a plan. To ensure that the company is never complacent in their endeavor to unlock leadership potential around the world,  the CCL plans to carry out their mission in a globally responsible matter. Aside from creating new knowledge and maintaining the positive environment in the work place, the company strives to support the local and global communities. They help them through volunteerism, donations, pro-bono work, and the sharing of their talents and materials. In 2011-2012, the CCL funded 203 scholarships at a value of more than $809,000. They also put emphasis on responsible governance and risk management, as well as, keeping in contact with their stakeholders and addressing issues of concern.

Overall, I thought this trip was different and beneficial in that it was engaging and thought provoking for every group member. Arriving at the company, I was surprised that they had such a nice cooperate building and was confused as to how they make so much income. After learning of their values and mission, it is easy to see how they achieve success. On a side note, it was interesting to see yet another business that appreciates true art and uses it as a small source of income.
