Proximity Hotel

Today we visited the Proximity Hotel, a luxurious green hotel. The hotel is one of only three in the United States that is Leed Platinum certified. The massive hotel cost over 30 million dollars to build and it is evident that a lot of money was spent on the unique decorations that appealed to guests.

The mission of the Proximity Hotel is to provide a very high quality and luxurious experience at a reasonable price while being energy efficient. During the tour of the hotel, our tour guide showed us all the different ways Proximity saves money by conserving energy. One of the coolest ways they do this is through the use of solar panels on the hotel’s roof. These solar panels were able to catch heat and use that heat to make hot water that guests need for taking showers. The solar panels and machine were a big investment costing over $300,000 but apparently it has already paid itself off with the amount of energy being conserved.

The Proximity Hotel does a great job marketing to all sorts of different groups of people. The hotel is for mainly middle-upper class citizens but it also can appeal to people who are very involved in going green and bettering the environment.  Being Leed certified is very important for people that are committed to going green.

The future for the Proximity Hotel looks positive. The family that owns it would like to keep the hotel in the family for many years down the road. This is important because with new management sometimes comes new issues which is something Proximity will not have to deal with. The hotel is new and it seems as if the employees do a great job keeping the hotel clean and running efficiently. I believe this hotel will continue to flourish for years to come.
