The Windows and Command Keys

Windows users … Ctrl, Fn, and Alt are all useful buttons in the bottom left-hand corner of a PC’s keyboard, but there’s one more button that is often overlooked.The Windows Button has several quick keystroke commands that can further simplify your life.Here is a list of the commands:

  1. Windows Logo =(Display or hide the Start menu)
  2. Windows Logo + BREAK =(Display the System Properties dialog box)
  3. Windows Logo + D = (Display the desktop)
  4. Windows Logo + M = (Minimize all of the windows)
  5. Windows Logo + SHIFT + M = (Restore the minimized windows)
  6. Windows Logo + E = (Open My Computer)
  7. Windows Logo + F = (Search for a file or a folder)
  8. CTRL + Windows Logo + F = (Search for computers)
  9. Windows Logo + F1 = (Display Windows Help)
  10. Windows Logo + L = (Lock the keyboard)
  11. Windows Logo + R = (Open the Run dialog box)
  12. Windows Logo + U = (Open Utility Manager)

Mac users … don’t worry!The Apple (or Command key) has more than its share of shortcuts.

1.Command + W = Close Window

2.Option + Command + W = Close all Windows

3.Command + Right Arrow = Expand folder (list view)

4.Option + Command + Right Arrow = Expand folder and nested subfolders (list view)

5.Command + Left Arrow = Collapse Folder (list view)

6.Option + Command + Up Arrow = Open parent folder and close current window

7.Command + option + Esc = Force Quit

8.Command + Option + Eject = Sleep now

9.Command + Control + Eject = Restart

10.Command + Option + Control + Eject = Shut Down
