On Monday, Aug. 5, Belk Library will update Lynda.com to LinkedIn Learning. During the update, both Lynda.com and LinkedIn Learning will be unavailable to all Elon users, from midnight through the remainder of the day.

So, you want to know what to expect? One thing that won’t change is your unlimited, free access to a robust library of more than 10,000 courses to help you hone your skills and reach your professional goals. Your current Lynda.com data and history will seamlessly transfer to LinkedIn Learning.

What will change? The updated platform will offer a more engaging, interactive and social experience for all users. LinkedIn Learning, which acquired Lynda.com, can be synced with your personal LinkedIn profile to offer more personalized course recommendations and to promote easy sharing between you and your network. But that’s not all.

Below, learn more about key features, other important changes that impact Elon faculty, staff and students, and review step-by-step instructions for activating your LinkedIn Learning account.

Key Features

Access to your history and data: Don’t worry about losing any progress you’ve made. Your current Lynda.com learning activity and history will be transferred to LinkedIn Learning. This includes groups, playlists, assigned content and account settings.

High-quality content: Free access to more than 10,000 courses in LinkedIn Learning’s business, creative and technology libraries.

Intuitive, easy-to-use interface: The easily accessible platform features more relevant, personalized course recommendations based on your skills, current job title, interests and what’s trending. Conveniently keep track of the skills you follow, saved courses and more.

Interactive, social experience: You may opt to sync your personal LinkedIn profile with LinkedIn Learning, which will allow you to receive personalized information about resources, utilize the Q&A feature to ask questions and receive responses directly from the instructor, and share updates about completed courses with your network. You can also share details about the courses you like via social media.

Please note: If you have synced your personal LinkedIn profile to LinkedIn Learning, you may be required to first login with your Elon email credentials, then login with your personal LinkedIn account credentials when accessing the service.

Other Important Updates

Refreshed links: Once the update is complete, previously used Lynda.com links will not work. For example, if you have shared Lynda.com links in a class syllabus or with an employee resource group (ERG), you will need to find those courses in LinkedIn Learning and update those links.

Limited vs. unlimited embedding: By syncing your personal LinkedIn profile with your LinkedIn Learning account, you can continue to enjoy unlimited embedding of LinkedIn Learning courses to Moodle each month. If not, you will be limited to only five embeds per month.

New mobile app: With the update comes a new LinkedIn Learning app. Download the app for free to enjoy access while on the go.

Activate Your LinkedIn Learning Account

After the update is complete, current Lynda.com users will receive an email about activating their LinkedIn Learning accounts. If you are not a current Lynda.com user or you do not receive an email, simply visit Elon’s LinkedIn Learning service page and log in.
Here are some tips to successfully activate your account and begin using LinkedIn Learning:

  • For the best user experience, log out of your LinkedIn account prior to activating your LinkedIn Learning account.
  • After clicking the email link to activate your account: If you are not already logged in with your Elon email username and password, you will be directed to the login page where you can enter your credentials. Then, you will be directed to your LinkedIn Learning account.
  • Upon activation, you will be given the option to connect your personal LinkedIn profile or create a separate LinkedIn Learning account during activation. If you choose to connect your LinkedIn profile, you will receive personalized recommendations for your skills and position, and see what topics are trending on LinkedIn Learning.
