As part of Elon’s busy summer, crews have removed the concrete walkways in front of McEwen in preparation for new brick sidewalks, which will match those found elsewhere on campus.

We can confirm – as if that big pile of dirt didn’t give it away – that the construction crew has started digging the foundation for the School of Communications’ new two-story building. The facility will be named Dwight C. Schar Hall, in recognition of Elon parents Dwight and Martha Schar.
A tip of the cap to the excavator operator removing the concrete sidewalk June 17 in front of McEwen Communications Building. During one stretch, the operator had to lift each bucketload over a lamppost to get to a waiting dump truck. Job well done!
The McEwen parking lot is now filled with heavy machinery instead of cars. A massive hole can’t be far behind for the foundation of the new 45,000-square-foot facility that will connected to McEwen.
On May 27, 2015, a tree service crew started clearing the area adjacent to McEwen Communications Building. The first two images highlight some early-morning work and, as you might have guessed, a sizable pile of wood chips was in the McEwen parking lot in the afternoon.
