Sandvik

Sandviks mission statement all about safety first with one of their main objectives being zero harm to their people, their customers and their suppliers, and the environment they work in. Sandvik is a high-technology and global engineering Group whose offering includes products, services, and support that improve customer productivity, profitability and safety. Over the years, the direction of the company has varied depending on historical technology shifts and the needs of industry and society at various junctures in history. The Group invests substantial amounts in research and development. Close collaboration with customers and suppliers distinguishes Sandvik as does it holistic approach and active management of environment, health, and safety aspects.

Sandvik Group sells a wide range of customers. Though the particular part of Sandvik that we visited ships all of their merchandise to a distribution center in Kentucky. The distribution center is the one that actively sells their merchandise. Sandvik’s customers value the quality of their products above all else. Sandvik says that our products might be the most expensive but you are also getting the best quality product that you can possibly find. They also value the proven track record in the premium segments that Sandvik has had, also the fact that Sandvik has been around for over 150 years.

The results for Sandvik speak for themselves. They have just recently celebrated their 150-year anniversary. In 2008 they doubled in size and recently purchased a large amount of land around them to further building growth. They also have only posted two years without a profit in the entire history of the company. Also three out of the five divisions posted higher than 15% profit for the last year.

Sandvik’s plan is to further increase the size of their plant in Mebane. Also to increase efficiency and growth, technology, engineering, production, and flow-groups. As our tour guide talked to us about the biggest thing that Sandvik wants to do is keep plants where the bigger markets are so they are continually spreading East and West, into the US and Asia, from its headquarters in Sweden.
