Elon

Today we learned about Elon as a business. I realized that I didn’t know everything about my school and it was really interesting to look at Elon at a business standpoint and not a university. Elon was founded in 1889 and is owned by the board of trustees. The board of trustees is made up of only one person, Leo Lambert. There have been eight presidents and a building is named after each one to keep their history alive.
What is Elon’s mission?

Elon’s mission is to prepare educators who embody the best of what Elon stands for. They approach life and work with optimism, integrity, knowledge, passion, skill, and respect for the diversity of humanity. They are proactive leaders, proficient instructors, and advocates for social justice, and ethical decision makers. What is different about Elon’s mission statement is that it changes every ten years.

Who is Elon’s customer?

Elon’s customers are the students who attend this university.

What does their customer value?

Elon’s customers value a good education, highly trained professors, a beautiful campus, and good food. These are all the reason that attracted me to the school and convinced me to apply to the university. The customer also values the small class sizes, which allow the student and teachers to have a relationship.

What are Elon’s results?

Elon has been very successful over the years. There has 92% growth in last 20 years. 6,305 students now attend Elon and there are 1,321 employees. Elon is recognized to be the nation’s top university in eight programs that “Focus on Student Success” .

What is Elon’s plan?

Elon’s plan is to increase their size academically and add more buildings. They wanted to become tougher to get into by raising their credibility and education. Elon also wants to increase at a steady rate in the amount of students that they accept.

Overall I thought that this meeting was really interested because I have never looked at Elon as being a business. I learned a lot more about my school and was fairly impressed by the information.
