Center for Creative Leadership

Today we visited the Center for Creative Leadership, headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Center for Creative Leadership reaches more than 120 countries from locations on four continents. There are nearly 21,000 leaders from 3,000 organizations that work with the Center for Creative Leadership each year. These leaders are taught how to think and act beyond the boundaries that limit their effectiveness.

The mission of the Center for Creative Leadership is to advance the understanding, practice, and development of leadership for the benefit of society worldwide. It’s vision is to fully realize its mission, by creating new knowledge that advances its field. This new knowledge will also transform the way leaders, their organizations, and their societies confront the most difficult challenges of the 21st century.

Because the Center for Creative Leadership is a nonprofit organization, it does not really have customers, but rather participants. The people who choose to use the Center for Creative Leadership are those who are in search of becoming a better leader, or simply developing their leadership skills. However, there are some programs offered by the Center for Creative Leadership that cost money. This is how the organization generates the majority of its profit. The customers and participants of these programs value results. Some of these programs can get very pricy. For example, “Leadership at the Peak” costs $11,000 for five days. But according to Deborah Freidman, you get what you pay for. These are trained professionals that have a great understanding for what it means to be a leader. The results of these camps and programs are extraordinary. The Center for Creative Leadership has helped helped thousands of men and women around the world become better leaders. The Center for Creative Leadership plans to continue to pump out great leaders. It will continue to develop new leadership skills, concepts, and ideas.

I enjoyed our visit to the Center for Creative Leadership. Deborah Freidman really seemed to know what she was talking about. I especially enjoyed the nail and box challenge. When our group decided to look at the internet and find the solution, I felt like we were cheating as well as giving up on ourselves. However, at the conclusion of the activity, our group was praised for its creative thinking. At no point in the instructions were we prohibited from using the internet to find the solution. It is important that we continue to use all of the resources around us. This is just one of many helpful tips we learned about leadership today.
