Glen Raven

In today’s class we visited Glen Raven, a global textile company. Glen Raven was started in 1880 by John Q. Grant and has been a family owned business for four generations. In the next four years though the current owner is going to give his position to the first non-family member to own the company.  One aspect that stood out to me the most was their vision statement, Let Endless Possibilities Begin. Glen Raven’s vision statement was created by the idea that they don’t think inside the box and are looking for more creative ways to achieve their goals. I think this vision statement is not only suitable for this company but also for line to live by. It represents that if you have an idea you can make it happen and there is nothing stopping you from doing it.

Similar to the LabCorp visit we learned the answers to Peter F. Drucker’s The Five Most Important Questions You Will Ever Ask About Your Organization. Glen Raven’s mission statement is enhancing life for global consumers with the world’s most innovative fabric-based, market-driven solutions. Glen Raven has a variety of customers that they produce for. Some of them are automobile companies, military, sailing companies, and people interested in furniture and awning. For having such a huge variety of customers they do a great job and changing their marketing strategies to appeal to each group of customers.  Glen Raven has six values that they go by in order to create a great work environment and successful company. They six values are engaged associates, embracing change, profitable growth, delighted customer, honorable stewardship, and confident shareholders. These six values make Glen Raven the company they are today.

One very important aspect of Glen Raven is their ability to change to make for a successful company in the future. One big change that they went through in the beginning was from being just an apparel fabric company to now having ten different industries that they provide too. This is what makes Glen Raven set for the future because they adapt their company to fit in today’s economy and are willing to change in order to maintain their success.

Overall I thought that Glen Raven was a very impressive company that takes pride in their success. On thing that I found very interesting was that they make the fabric that is used for the sails in sailboats. I am from Annapolis, Maryland that is the capital of sailing and it was interesting to learn that Glen Raven is a mass producer of that fabric.
