When it comes to Internet browsers, not all are created equal. Tech Talks @2 recently started a four-part series to highlight some of the latest features in Internet Explorer (IE)FirefoxChrome, and Safari.  We will cover one browser each Tuesday, so tune in at 2:00pm to learn how your current browser of choice stacks up against the others. Who knows, you might walk away with a new favorite browser.

This week’s Tech Talks @2 (watch now) focused on Internet Explorer 9, which is available for Windows Vista and 7. Here are some of the new features available in Explorer.

Web-focused Browsing – The back button is larger, the Address bar and search box are combined into one new Address bar, and the multiple menus are consolidated into a single menu. Learn more.

Tab Page – Saves your most frequently visited sites, and allows you to reopen closed tabs and reopen your last browser session. Learn more.

Pin Sites to Task Bar – Tabs can be pinned to the Windows 7 task bar, just like programs. Learn more.

One Box – Combines the address and search bar into one. Bing is the default search engine, but you can also add others. Learn more.

Security and Privacy

  • The new notifications display is less intrusive, but still easy-to-spot. Learn more.
  • Tracking Protection Lists make it easy to keep websites from tracking your browsing habits using tracking protection lists. Learn more.
  • SmartScreen Filter verifies URLs against Microsoft’s blacklist and blocks known malicious sites. Learn more.
