Look out for new phishing emails targeting faculty
There has been a rise in phishing emails targeted to universities. Please be aware of the latest scam where the link in the email seems to take you the Outlook Web Access (OWA) login page seeking to collect your username and password. Read all of your emails carefully before clicking on any links or opening attachments.

How to protect yourself
- Do not open any attachments unless you are sure the sender sent it
- Hover or rest the mouse pointer over a link before clicking it. Usually this will reveal the actual URL. If the web address looks strange or maybe has a misspelling then don’t click on the link.
- Make sure the sender sent you an email before clicking on a link especially if you were not expecting an email or the message in the email does not seem to resemble other messages from the sender.
- Delete and report all suspicious emails the Service Desk. In many email clients you can also mark the email as spam.
If you receive an email you suspect is a Phishing attempt contact the Service Desk at servicedesk@elon.edu. This is also a good time to make sure all of your accounts are using different passwords.
