Elon IT Decoded: Meet Syretta Oliver
Most days, Campus Technology Support Technician Syretta Oliver is trekking back-and-forth along Elon’s brick walkways to offer solutions and assistance to students, faculty and staff for a variety of technology concerns.
“You’re liable to see me walking from building to building, knocking on doors and offices, trying to find folks to troubleshoot problems,” she said. “I provide hardware and software support on Macs, PCs, tablets – you name it, we support it.”
It’s work that Syretta finds rewarding and challenging.
“I enjoy the community and working with different individuals,” she said. “We’re constantly growing, we’re very diverse, Elon’s very goal-oriented, and we’re doing our best to adjust to the changing times and the way technology is constantly changing.”
Syretta, an Asheboro native, began her information technology career as a technician in the healthcare industry. Soon after, she accepted a position with the Service Desk on Elon’s main campus. When the law school opened, Syretta moved to a computer technician position there. About nine years later, she returned to main campus.
In June, Syretta will celebrate 14 years at the university.
“Yay, I’m excited,” she said of the milestone. “One of the things I enjoy most about my job is that every day is different. Every week I learn something new, and that’s great, because I have a great team that supports me, encourages me and backs me to learn new things.”
