Seventy-nine Short Essays on Design

Seventy-nine Short Essays on Design. So after reading this I had to go back and refresh myself on what I read because I was very interested in the stories and someone what forgot what they had to do with design. The first thing that got my attention was buttons thats are in elevators or even let one know to cross the street. That article caught my attention because it made an interesting point. Do those buttons really work or are they there just to make us (people) feel like we are being catered to at some since but the buttons dont do a thing at all. At one point in my life I thought that, especially if your at a  empty light at night. The button doesnt have any effect at all. (Random) but I also thought about this when I was watching Godzila for the first time. There is a scene in there where the Godzilla babies are running towards them and they press the door close button and the door barely closes in time.

Another interesting article that I spent too much time on was Mr. Vignelli’s Map. Mr. Vignelli was granted the great opportunity to make the map for the NYC Subway line. What I found interesting was his map, “was based on the principles that would be familiar to anyone who appreciated the legendary London Underground map designed in 1933 by Harry Beck.” The map concept was based on train angles. The train lines would run at 45 and 90 degree angles only. Now what i did was decided to google NYC subway and some how found s “secret” subway station Original City Hall. It was built in 1904 and closed in 1945 for many reasons. One of the reasons of it “failing” was the lines where track configuration where trains had an issue of going to the station because of turns being too sharp. I just find all of this very interesting and crazy how all of this all ties together. Anyways, these are interesting articles no matter who reads them.
