Creative Cultures: Inspire or Be Inspired

Troika Design Group. What a great place to work! Creative designers/thinkers thrive. Technical geeks flourish.  New projects build opportunity for growth. Plus everyday is casual wear.  People won’t judge you if you listen to your music without headphones. And lunch is provided.  It is apparent that everyone working at Troika really loves what they do.

Watching the Troika Design Group documentary was truly inspirational. It got me thinking about where I wanted to take my career in design. I always saw myself working with clients to help them promote and brand themselves, but I never looked at TV networks being clients too.

Watching how Troika employees work through their process and techniques, reinforced my goal of getting familiar with other parts of the branding process, not just the production and design. As mentioned in the video, good candidates for future employers are those that have a mastered skill, but also “wear many hats.”  Everyone at Troika has the opportunity to learn a new skill through peers, internal workshops and open access to all work equipment.

Sharing of ideas is essential! I have learned as a designer and interactive media producer, is that everyone benefits from the processes of sharing information and ideas.  Throwing new ideas out there, getting feedback and adding to your personal vision/goals.  The Troika staff believes in teamwork and that no particular project is completed by one or two individuals.  Everyone at some point of the process is involved, from the building of client relationships, brainstorming of ideas, production, and delivery.  Other people outside of your process team can bring new ideas and different point of view.

Troika Design Group is successful because every employee surrounds themselves with design, visual inspiration and like minded thinkers.   They make me revaluate how I am currently shaping into my career.  As I look at my work station I realized it was lacking something. Other than my 2012 vision board, it lacks design and creative inspiration.  I am making it my goal to get more in touch with my creative side.  I plan to get more items on my wall and vision board to reflect and keep me constantly thinking about interactive media and design.  Where ever my career leads me, I know two things will always remain, Technology and Design.   Technology is the pen & pencil but design is the brain and creative thinking aspect.  I need to create a more “creative culture” now.  Where I study and work should always be cultured so that creativity is always in motion.  Creative designs are either inspired or produced, either way it is always present.
