I have to admit, I love the iPhone. The combination of its sleek exterior and sophisticated, well designed interface work together to make the phone, in my opinion, timeless. It is strange that we have progressed to a point in technology where a cell phone can be considered a ‘classic’…but I think it is there.
It may not be agreed upon that the iPhone is the best cellular or mobile device out there…but I believe it is certainly the chic-est. Its simple to navigate interface compared with the easy on the eyes resolution level and high quality images provoke a feeling of refinement. I remember when I got my first iPhone I felt a lot more professional. Weird right?
The aesthetically pleasing features of the interface certainly allude to feelings of professionalism though. The organization especially. And like Tufte pointed out, the lack of clutter. I think keeping this type of visual arrangement is the most important component when designing an iPhone interface. Relevance, organization and simplicity are key. Elegance is inherent in the design of the iPhone inside and out. That is what I think makes it such a classic.
