Broadcast Designers

We were tasked with watching one of the designer documentaries this week, and I chose to watch the work of Rick Morris. Rick Morris is a motion graphic designer who has worked for Kia, Motorola, CMT and other famous companies.

First let me say that I loved his look, He resembled a 21-century Andy Warhol. I also really enjoyed the tour of his home, it really matches his style and I can see how much he enjoys design art in all forums. Morris Mentioned how fond he is of different textures and when he buys art it is the first thing he looks for. I thought this was rather a typical, but corky in a kind of brilliant way.

Ricks Reel was really well done, from the fast cuts to the matching sound track, the reel did wonders to highlight ricks unique style and show off his technical prowess. Having completed my own motion graphic I took time to see If I could figure out how he did all of his own pieces. Many of them I could but there are still a few that blew my mind. His style is evident in all of his pieces; it almost resembles a pop up book cut from Polaroid’s. Ricks interview was a little too candid for my taste but I thought it was interesting that he wasn’t a computer genius

before he started making motion graphics, and that the computer prowess came as he was designing for clients. This definitely makes me feel better about my own computer skills and prowess. Now all I have to do is make a bad ass reel like Rick, and I have a high paying job also! Knock on wood.
