We’re Ahead of the Curve

Guys, I realized something after I had left the conference.

It dawned on me when I was in one of the non-profit seminars (the second one, forgot the name of it) when we were discussing different social media (tumbler, pinterest, etc.) sites to try and draw in new users. To me, a lot of this information the speaker was saying was a no-brainer. But what was fascinating was how many people really didn’t know any of this information.

This made me realize a huge factor: we’re already ahead of the curve over most of these people at this conference.

When Rachel brought up Jane McGonical and all of the gaming theories that could be used for the non-profit sector. I swear, everyone looked baffled like she was speaking a different language.

This is the type of stuff that sets us a part from everyone else at that conference. Sure, many of the attendees held jobs and owned companies, but we had far more knowledge than many of these people. THAT’S HUGE! This kind of information can get us clients to work for our capstones, or even jobs.

That being said, I was a little disappointed with the conference as a whole. I left around 3PM because I had already gotten everything I wanted out of it. Everything else left did not seem interesting enough, and most of the stuff I listened to beforehand I pretty much knew going in. At the same time, I’m so glad I went because now I know where I stand in relation to everyone else.

We’re here to pave the way for our industry, and we’re already a step ahead.
