ConvergeSouth 2012

Social media is more than just communicating with family and friends across the country. That’s what I got out of ConvergeSouth 2012. Social media can be used to promote yourself or the company that you work for, and the best part is that using most social media websites does not cost any money!

My favorite part of the conference was attending “Make a living out of blogging”. The only reason that I blog is because it’s a class requirement. But it’s nice to read how my classmates feel about the program, what things they’ve done outside of the program and what their career aspirations are. My presenter Gaspare Marturano talked about how he made a living about blogging. His best advice was blog about something that you can’t really Google. One of the attendees talked about his blog, which is catered to traveling couples with no children rather than just couples who like to travel.

He also gave a number of tips about blogging:

  1. Read everyday
  2. Practice writing everyday
  3. Do your research and site your sources.

Though I plan on going into the sports world after graduation, I feel that this conference was beneficial for my job hunt in the next couple of months. This conference had me thinking outside of the box and makes me more optimistic about my life after iMedia.
