Nightmare Land

Why?

These short films were strange. I thought I missed something, so I watched them again. Nope: now I feel more strange, having been pulled into that dark wold for twice as long.

Aside from the “what the hell” feeling of disconnect, these animated shorts were pretty neat. No dialogue, no musical score, just the characters in their strange, dark, far-away colorless land. In winter, or maybe nuclear winter. Whatever it was it felt like nightmare.

But it completely pulled me in. Knowing that there is a killer on the loose keeps you on the edge of your seat. And the fact that the little robot guy in the second film was blind made me want to watch extra-closely for his sake. I was protecting him from afar.

So they all live in a dark tower in the middle of nightmare land, AND there’s a guy who likes to kill (assuming the guy with the gun was the guy who stabbed the priest). Nice work Pica, I never want to go there. Respect. -Louis
