After watching Marc Craste and Studio Aka’s short films of darkness, I was inevitably left wondering what was the purpose?
The style is very dark, no color, and has a grainy looking film filter with little robots that almost look like old, deformed televisions that are supposed to tell a story. In watching this, the viewer needs to put their imagination skills to the test. Why are people getting killed? What do the blind robot and his dog represent? Why does the dog lead his blind owner to an eerie place where a dead thing is hanging? Why was the priesty-looking character killed as well as the pizza man? Also, every time the end comes, the movie screen jumps to black. I guess we are supposed to think for ourselves the outcome.
I’m not a fan of weird little films like this. It is certainly skillfully done, but I just don’t like how it makes me uncomfortable and terribly confused. But perhaps that this is the films’ purpose?
