Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon by the locals, is the biggest city in Vietnam. It is easy to tell when you walk the streets by the amount of motorbikes and cars. However the city is much bigger than expected. While in Saigon I had the chance to go to the tallest building in the city. The view from the top is amazing. Even at the top it is hard to tell how big this city is. The buildings go on forever with little specks of motorbikes rushing in between them. The full 360 degrees are filled with narrow buildings. The only break is one river that passes through. The population isn’t known due to the constant immigration into the city. There is an estimate of around 8 million, however there is no definite end to the city. Buildings never really stop, the just get a smaller and cheaper as you drive out of the city. When we visited a furniture factory considered still in the city it took an hour and a half to get there. At no point could I tell where the suburbs could have started. The Vietnamese realize that there is a lot of opportunity in Saigon, so they continue to move into the city growing it even more. From the top of the tower there was so much commotion on the ground it seemed as busy as New York. We watched night take the city, and there was no stop to the movement. Saigon goes on forever, and there really is no way to see it all in just our short five days.
