Roy G. Biv -> CMYK -> RGB

Color. The world is all about color. It defines all visual things. Colors can help organize our lives, direct us through traffic, create a sense of calm or a feeling of chaos. Color can inspire brand loyalty, clarify concepts and even curb our appetites.

I love color. My first encounter with organized color was through Roy G. Biv in fifth grade science class. “Roy” is the acronym for the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet), which are ALWAYS in that order.  My favorite foods are the most colorful – I don’t have a meat and potatoes kind o’ “palette.” I’ve studied (and taught) color theory, and I understand that colors exist only in relation to their environment. Yellow next to orange looks very different from the same yellow next to purple.

Color is my communication tool of choice. Whether my palette is paint (subtractive, colorwheel), ink (subtractive, CMYK) or light pixels (additive, RGB), color is the first choice I make in a design piece.

Will I be able to explore color in the interactive world? How might the concepts of  “aesthetics” and “design” be different for interactive media? Does color choice make a difference in creating an “inviting” interactive piece?

My forty-year relationship with “Roy” is pretty well established. But I am always interested in learning better communications skills with my long-term partner.
