Journalism in the Age of Data

I, like many others in the class didn’t need a long time to realize what was going on in the movie and why we were watching it. While the video wasn’t all that exciting to watch, it was somewhat worthwhile as it had valuable information.

You can tell that visualization has taken a new form in today’s society as people are being creative and finding new ways to design. Visualization now is different from the past as alot of designs go away from the norm and are produced to make basic and/or normally boring information stand out and be something exciting to look at.

Speaking of making information stand out, the design aspect of it, according to the movie, caused for some problems. While some people are trying to make information as visually appealing as possible, others believe that this same technique is taking away from the actual content itself. People against the design think that it’s becoming to complicated and not doing it’s job of telling a story.

If you ask me, I’m somewhere in the middle when it comes to the controversy. I’m all for allowing the content to do it’s job and just tell a story but in the same breathe I’m also for making information visually appealing that way it can reach out to a broader audience and that same audience can probably remember the information and take something away from it.
