When I grow, I wanna be famous… (PCD song ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Michael Bierut’s essay on how to become famous. It was simple, it was short, it seems realistic. Perhaps I can become famous!

He instructs the reader to design anything and everything… hm.. do I sense Christmas gifts such as stationaries, cards, posters and the like? It’s already in the works for my family this year! Seriously though, when he said this, it really made me want to get out there and design  anything! I was thinking of creating an infographic about a month in the life of Kelsey Trabue: how many times I drove to Powell, hours spent in the lab, amount of projects/assignments, how much gas I used, how many yards I swam, among others. Perhaps it wouldn’t be interesting to know about all that stuff, but it would be cool to look at.

Bierut also discusses that we will make lots of good things in our time, but only a few pieces will be great. I feel like I have experienced this in the program thus far. There are a couple of projects I’m especially happy with and the others, I’m simply “meh” about them. There seems to be a new motivation that I’m gravitating towards, and I’m not only saying this because I have to write a blog post, but I believe it to be true.

The line where he said his mother says, “It’s nice to be important, but it’s important to be nice.” I think that myself and my classmates can all really hone in on this statement as we venture into our fly-ins. We all have important roles, but it will also be important to be nice to each other so we can all enjoy the time that we are working together!
